Caribbean Stud Poker

Overview
Caribbean Stud poker follows many of the same rules as five card poker, with the main difference being that the players adversary is a casino. The game lacks some of the subtleties of traditional stud poker as there is no bluffing, and only the player places a bet on a hand.

Ante
A Caribbean Stud poker game begins with a player placing an ante or opening bet. The minimum and maximum ante will be clearly indicated on the table.

Deal
Once the ante has been placed both the dealer and player are dealt five cards. One of the dealer’s cards is then flipped over to show the card value.

2nd Round
Before placing a bet, the player has the opportunity to look at his or her cards. If the player holds a good poker hand, a second bet is placed which is exactly double the value of the ante. If the player holds a weak or losing hand there is also the option to surrender, in which case the player forfeits the ante.

Result
Once the player does bet on a hand, the dealer’s cards are revealed to the player. If the dealer’s cards make up a poker hand, this hand is compared to that of the player, with the strongest hand winning. When the dealer’s cards do not make up a poker hand, the player’s bet is refunded and the ante is matched 1:1.

If the dealer holds the stronger poker hand the player loses both ante and bet. A bet can be placed on a player’s cards even if they do not comprise a poker hand. Should the dealer’s cards also fail to show a poker hand the player’s bet is refunded and the ante is paid out 1:1.
